The Do Good. Better Conference ‘25

The Problem.

The Do Good. Better Conference was created by the Ballard Center for Social Impact to empower individuals with the faith, confidence, and practical skills to solve social problems in their communities. Previous conferences had strong potential but lacked cohesion, clear thematic direction, and a program flow that truly supported participant learning and connection. Our challenge was to redesign the experience with a more intentional theme, stronger content alignment, and a structure that supported meaningful engagement.

The Process.

Using design thinking principles, I synthesized attendee feedback, mapped key learning outcomes, and prototyped different program formats. I carefully shaped the conference narrative by selecting session topics that aligned with the theme and created a balanced rhythm of keynote moments, workshops, and interactive sessions. Collaboration was essential — I worked cross-functionally with speakers, student volunteers, and academic partners to refine content and ensure the entire flow felt purposeful and energizing. The result was a conference designed to not only educate but also motivate and connect participants on a deeper level.

The Solution.

The final conference design featured a clear, compelling theme, a strategically curated lineup of workshops, and an inspiring keynote speaker who anchored the event. The program flow emphasized both learning and interaction, giving attendees space to reflect, collaborate, and apply new ideas. Every part of the experience — from registration to closing remarks — was intentionally crafted to help participants build the skills and faith needed to make a genuine impact in their communities.

The Impact.

The redesigned conference welcomed over 300 attendees and saw a 25 percent increase in Net Promoter Score (NPS), signaling stronger emotional resonance and overall attendee satisfaction. Participants reported feeling more equipped and inspired to tackle social issues, validating the importance of a thoughtful theme, clear experience flow, and user-centered programming. This project reinforced my belief that intentional design — backed by data and empathy — can transform an event into a catalyst for personal and community change.

My Role.

As the Student Lead and Programmer, I guided the conference from early ideation to final execution. I gathered and analyzed feedback from the previous year’s event to understand what resonated, what fell flat, and what opportunities we had to elevate the experience. I led the theme development process, researched and secured the keynote speaker, programmed workshops, designed the conference flow, and identified the target demographics we needed to reach. Throughout the project, I coordinated with faculty, presenters, and student teams to ensure the entire experience felt cohesive, mission-driven, and attendee-centered.

Skills and Tools Used.

This project strengthened my abilities in design thinking, data analysis, public speaking, and cross-functional team leadership. I honed my skills in thematic development, program architecture, and experience storytelling while coordinating logistics and content across multiple stakeholders. The process also deepened my confidence in facilitating collaboration, interpreting user feedback, and designing mission-driven experiences that inspire action.
